National Urban Policy
According to the Act of 6 December 2006 on the Principles of Conducting Development Policy, the National Urban Policy (NUP) is a document specifying the planned activities of the government administration regarding urban policy, taking into account the goals and directions set out in the medium-term strategy for the country's development and the national strategy of regional development. It serves the purposeful, territorially oriented action of the state for the sustainable development of cities and their functional areas, and the use of their potentials in the country's development processes.
Urban policy in Poland focuses on territorially oriented actions and instruments that respond to current challenges faced by cities. This means that individual policies implemented by various ministries and government institutions should enable the best possible use of the unique potentials and competitive advantages of Polish cities and their functional areas to ensure sustainable social, economic and spatial development.
Official statistics support these activities by providing indicators monitoring the assumed goals and challenges. A set of indicators for monitoring the NUP is available in the STRATEG development monitoring system, accessible at STRATEG
